Participating in the User Experience Design Immersive at General Assembly was a valuable learning experience that took my education, research skills, and computer background and refocused them together for the process of UX.

How process meets a passion project.

Tasked with creating a project from start to finish that was a creative passion project, I took my fantasy of merging a Kindle or iBooks community with the fantastical world of fan art online, as seen on sites like DeviantArt. From ideation and research to prototyping and testing hi-fi wireframes, I wanted a fully integrated books & art community, with a dash of business on the side.

research and ideation

Doing competitive and comparative analyses with favored art and eReader apps was the beginning of the discovery process. Using surveys to acquire demographic and behavioral information from people who were interested in the concept helped to form personas.

Core functionality

A community of top liked artists, the ability to purchase books associated with art, genre clubs, a gallery, a library, profile stats, and the sketch canvas to upload the user's masterpiece.

Cohort on working with me.

who, me? thanks for the flattery

My cohort at GA was full of amazing people with a wide variety of talent, from graphic design to journalism. My classmates and project partners appreciated my background and seemed to enjoy working with me. I try to always be a "mad producer."

Putting my skills to use in the world of UX by learning about how to organize a process of discovery, design, testing, and iteration was key in fueling my tech career.
